1. Manage Time
Stick
to what you would best like to do and have more fun working on something
that you really like. Do not be
afraid
to spend a lot of time thinking vaguely, or even day-dreaming around the
subject. The time is not wasted.
However,
for nonimportant project, just say no. Otherwise, do it as effortlessly
as possible and finish it as
quickly
as you can, and get back to the real stuff.
2. Portfolio
Keep a set of problems and ideas but work mainly on one each time. If you
are not making progress and lose
interests
on one, switch to another. You mind will stay fresher and you will feel
less depressed about the lack of
progress
on one problem. Do not switch too rapidly.
3. Revision
Continue revising your papers to improve them, but not forever. Papers
should be improved only to the point
where
the rate of improvement equals the rate of interest.
4. Read Seriously
Read other people's papers either seriously, or not at all. Read slowly
and carefully, figure out my own way to
understand
it, check all the details and question anything. This is a good way to
get new research ideas of your
own.
5. Keep Writing Simple and Short
The temptation to show one's technical wizardry only makes your paper less
easy to read, and reduces its impact.
If
an idea can be conveyed in a simple way, do so. Do not merely state the
results without any explanation or
economic
intuition but write only what matters. Do not boast. Claim a little less
for the work than it deserves. 6.
Present
Clearly Sometimes people di not understand the paper because of poor writing
and presentation. People
may
be prejudiced, but they are not stupid. Have a confidence on the work and
publish presentation and try to
communicate
with people.
