"CC, work hard!" 老師,你要加油喔

I ran into one student who was in my course last year. Knowing that I have been working on rank promoting, she said to me while waving bye-bye, "CC, work hard!" I know it would be weird to make such a statement in English, particularly to a professor. But, you know, in Chinese, or perhaps for me personally, it is a statement of great encouragement. It clearly shows her love and concern. I have gained a lot of strength from her and other students who send their love and encouragement in each of their own ways. I want to make a note here to remind myself that I have their support behind me. (December 25, 2005)

HomeComing 回家真好

I came back to Taipei during January 2002 after 8 years of graduate student life in Bloomington, Indiana. The experience literally changed me from inside out! During the first few months in Taipei, I was not used to everything at all. It felt like floating over the sky all the time, because I was not a part of the environment. With God's grace and everybody's help, I am now feeling much like a fish swimming happily in her perfect ocean. Many wonderful things have happened. Home coming was not bad at all!

My favorite scripture 最喜歡的聖經經文

(Philippians, 4, 4-8) "Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice! Your kindness should be known to all. The Lord is near. Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.  Then, the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

My favorite writing by Mother Terresa --

People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered,

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives,

If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies

The good you do will be forgotten tomorrow

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable,

What you spent years building may be destroyed overnight,

People really need help but may attack you if you help them

Give the world the best you have
And you will get kicked in the teeth
